Washing and Care Settings
To keep your small pet accessories in good condition, always choose a gentle washing cycle with the lowest possible spin speed. This helps maintain the shape of the item, protects the fabric, and prevents unnecessary wear over time. Before placing items in the washing machine, it’s best to remove as much pet hair as possible. You can do this by using a lint roller or brush, which significantly reduces the amount of hair left on the fabric. Additionally, hair traps can be placed directly into the washing machine drum. These help collect loose fur during the wash, preventing it from sticking to the fabric and protecting your washing machine as well.
Dealing with Urine Stains and Odors
Vinegar is an ideal product for removing urine stains and neutralizing odors. For small urine spots, prepare a solution using one part 9% vinegar and four to five parts water. Place the item in a basin and let it soak for a few minutes. This helps break down the odor-causing compounds effectively and safely.
After soaking, it is essential to rinse the item very thoroughly with clean water to remove all traces of vinegar. Important: vinegar neutralizes laundry detergent. If you skip this step, vinegar will react with the detergent during washing, reducing cleaning effectiveness and making the wash much less effective overall.
As an alternative, you can also use enzymatic sprays specifically designed for pet stains, such as products made for removing dog vomit or cat urine. These sprays work by breaking down odor-causing proteins and are generally safe for use around pets.
Detergents and Additives
When washing our pet accessories, always choose a mild, fragrance-free detergent. Strong scents can irritate your pet’s sensitive respiratory system and skin. Fabric softeners should be avoided entirely, as they gradually thin the fabric, reduce absorbency, and can leave residues that are not pet-safe.
For extra safety, it’s recommended to enable an additional rinse cycle or rinse the items twice. This ensures that all detergent is completely washed out of the fabric. Any leftover detergent residue can cause skin irritation or respiratory discomfort for your pet.
Drying and Storage
Tumble drying is not recommended for our accessories. High heat and intense spinning can cause fabrics to shrink or lose their shape, while synthetic padding may become compressed, lumpy, and uncomfortable. Seams and hand-stitched details can also weaken or break under these conditions.
Instead, allow items to air-dry naturally. Laying them flat or gently shaping them while drying helps preserve their original form. Before storing, always make sure the items are completely dry to prevent mold growth or unpleasant odors.
